HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We rang in 2024 in our usual style: watching Laurel & Hardy movies in our pajamas. (This year’s viewing was Blockheads, followed by the short Laughing Gravy.) At midnight we stepped out on the back porch to listen to all the fireworks going off downtown and around the neighborhood.
And how’s the new year treating you so far?
SHOWS THIS MONTH
Holy cow, we’re getting back on the road SOON!
Jan. 26: Saint Louis, MO • The Focal Point / 8pm
Jan. 27: Champaign, IL • Techline Studio / 7pm
Jan. 28: Berwyn, IL • FitzGerald’s / 4pm
About These Shows…
Returning to The Focal Point will be a delight not only because we love that room and that crowd, but also because it affords us the opportunity to visit grandson Eli, who’s now in his first year at SLU—bonus!
Our stop in Champaign is going to be a very intimate show; it’s basically a house concert that’s not in a house. If you’re interested in attending, you’ll need to make a reservation with organizer Ed Hawkes. Details can be found here.
True story: our last show at FitzGerald’s wasn’t very well attended, so we weren’t sure they’d be game to have us back. But when I reached out, the response from owner Will Duncan was (and I quote), “I'd happily host any traveling musician willing to brave a Chicago January :)” So please tell all your folks in Chicagoland about the gig—we don’t want the kind Mr. Duncan to regret his decision! (Note that we made showtime 4pm to make it friendlier for a Sunday outing.)
LOOKING AHEAD
Mark your calendars—we’ll also be in these places in March!
Mar. 28 • Savannah, GA / Savannah Music Festival
Mar. 29 • Asheville, NC / Wortham Center
Mar. 30 • Greensboro, NC / TBA!
CELEBRATING
On New Year’s Day, Kieran’s offspring and their families always have a get-together to create a glorious pile of Japanese food (a tradition from their mom’s side of the family). We are the lucky/lazy folks who show up once the work’s all done to admire (and wolf down) their beautiful handiwork. Just look at this spread!
IN CLOSING…
Are you already a subscriber to our YouTube channel? If not, hop to it! We’ll be posting some musical bits soon. (I’m sure you’ll hear all about it in our next newsletter.)
As always, thanks bunches for reading. If you know anyone you think would enjoy hearing from us, forward this along. Here’s to more music, more connecting, and more joy in 2024!
Till soon —

PS: Since we last wrote, our community experienced another awful tornado. The damage was extensive and many folk are in need—here’s one option for lending aid.
Thanks for the updates. We can’t make it to Berwyn for the Chicago show as much as we love Fitzgeralds but based on your recommendation, we are going to catch David Francey in East Lansing in March.
Thanks for the update. I subscribed to your YouTube channel and enjoyed a number of your latest video recordings. You guys make beautiful music. Workin's Too Hard is still one of my very favourite albums. Turning to your shorts, I thought it was very kind of you to offer to sponsor Taylor Swift. All the best for 2024.
