Home Again, Home Again
After a long summer away up north, our Nashville abode required similar cleanup as the cabin did when we arrived—spider removal, lots of dusting and vacuuming, loads of yard cleanup. We always go through a funny transition time where we can’t quite remember how we function here. Standing frozen in the middle of the kitchen wondering where the slotted spoon is, that kind of thing. But we’re finding our groove. Most of the cobwebs are gone, our bags are unpacked, the studio is set up, and we’ve started venturing out into the world and seeing family and friends.
The big hollering we want to do at the moment is to say: WE HAVE SHOWS NEXT MONTH!
November Tour
Nov 8: Yellow Springs, OH / Foundry Theater at Antioch College
Nov 9: Columbus, OH / Natalie’s Grandview
Nov 10: Peninsula, OH / The G.A.R. Hall
Nov 11: Charleston, WV / Culture Center Theater
We also want to give a special heads-up to our friends in St. Louis and Chicago, because we’ll be coming your way in (drumroll, please)… JANUARY! (We’re gambling that you hardy midwesterners will be unfazed by whatever brutal weather may be happening then.) Stay tuned for all the details.
Wildlife Report
While being on a lake in the Adirondacks means lots of cool critter sightings, our little corner of East Nashville is surprisingly full of wild animals, too. A couple days after we got home, I (that’s RG, if you hadn’t figured it out yet) spotted a good-sized snake making its way down the outside of the house. After a period of mutual observation, I managed to scoop it up and haul it over to the golf course. Maybe we’ll meet again on the links. Shout out to Instagram buddy Kevin Blackwell—aka @bonesbugsandharmony—for assistance in identifying the handsome creature as a yellow rat snake. If you enjoy gorgeous photos of animals and insects, go check out his account! (No photos of my new snake bestie are included here because KK is intensely snake-phobic, and I want him to be able to read his own newsletter.)
Recent Viewing
While we were still at the cabin, we got the 1979 BBC series version of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy from the library. So absurdly great in every way. The DVD extras included an interview with author John le Carré that was fabulous, too.
If you’re seeking a creepy movie to enhance your October “spooky season” experience, we strongly recommend the 1955 French film Diabolique. (If you’ve already seen it, we can attest that it stands up surprisingly well to repeat viewings.)
Acknowledgement
We want to take a moment to note the passing of the great Mike Henderson. He was one of the founders of Dead Reckoning Records, a fierce instrumentalist, an award-winning songwriter, and a deeply loved and widely admired individual. Mike (or “Hendo,” as he was known to many) was a powerful force in the world of music, but as anyone who knew him will attest, he was an even more powerful force as a human being. This is a sad time for everyone who loves him, and we’re grateful for all of the wisdom, songs, and humor he leaves behind.
Wishing you all well…
Till soon,
xo rg & kk
Tickled to hear from the likes of youze.
