Hey, pal —
Been a while, hasn’t it?
Welcome to our little summertime project: “Notes From the Cabin”. We’re planning to send out a virtual postcard every week or two to keep you in the loop on our projects and notions and silliness while we’re tucked away at our cabin in the Adirondacks.
This particular note will be a little long, as we’ve got some catching up to do — but don’t worry, the next ones will be more concise!
Upcoming Shows
• July 1: Saratoga Springs, NY / Caffe Lena / NOTE: this will also be a livestream!
• Aug 5: Putnam Valley, NY / Tompkins Corners Cultural Center
These are both very cool spots that we’re looking forward to revisiting. And Caffe Lena does an unusually great job with their online broadcasts, so we hope you’ll join us virtually for that one if you can’t get there in person!
News from Dead Reckoning HQ
Kieran is one of the founders of Dead Reckoning Records, and these days the two of us are the hands-on folks who keep it going. We mail out CDs and make sure the back catalog is showing up on streaming services and cook up plans about what’s next for the label.
In addition to our own musical projects, at the moment we’re also working toward releasing some live recordings of The O’Kanes. (That was the band Kieran formed with Jamie O’Hara, which was active in the 1980s-90s.)
The live recordings are from their last tour, when they were opening for Emmylou Harris. The band at the time consisted of Jamie, Kieran, and Richard Kane; Roy Huskey, Jr.—who had been their original bass player—was in Emmylou’s band then, so he joined the O’Kanes every night too.
We’ll fill you in as we make progress toward making that album a reality.
In fluffier label news: we have printed a limited run of “KKRG” stickers! We’re currently including them free with any CD order.
KK Tidbits
Since Rayna has a newsletter (and now a blog) of her own, we’ll let you hunt down her news there. But here are some updates from Kieran:
He just bought a guitar from an online auction.
It’s an early 1960s Harmony Sovereign with the original Gibson P-13 pickup. Doesn’t make the biggest sound, but it has a unique voice. It has already inspired some fresh musical bits—and we haven’t even tried plugging it in yet!
He recently got access to an archive of his old songwriting demos, which has led to lots of reminiscing, as well as inspiring us to start learning some of these previously-neglected songs.
Speaking of reminiscing: take a look at the videos we’ve posted on YouTube of Kieran telling stories about his early days in Nashville.
Your Turn!
What would you like to hear about in our upcoming notes? Write and let us know!
Thanks so so much for reading.
Till soon —

PS: The immense Martin Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon, which we had the honor and confusion of being involved with in a small way, debuted at Cannes to rave reviews and will be released in October.
Just an aside: The other day I dropped by some friends' home to visit and ended up playing some music. I didn't have my weapon (guitar) along but, "no problem," they handed me one of theirs: older Harmony Sovereign! This, just after I read about Kieran obtaining one. I'd never played a Sovereign -- I have Martin's -- and wondered why Kieran popped for one, but I was duly impressed with what I heard. Very nice tone. Now I know, Kieran!
Glad to be getting this newsletter. However, please change my email address to: barrybrower45@gmail.com
Thanks!
