First: A Sales Pitch
After months of not performing, we’ve got a show coming up soon!
Saturday, July 1 at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY
This will also be viewable via Caffe Lena’s very snazzy livestream setup.
So roll up or tune in! We’ll be oh so glad to have you.
Following Up
We have been both amused and bemused by the many responses we got (via email and comments) regarding our practice of “folk golf.” It’s delightful to know our approach to the game resonated, and our polling indicates an openness among our readers to having a folk golf experience. (Maybe this is the next frontier of workshops we could lead! Folk Golf for Beginners, anyone?)
And, to answer one of the more common questions we received: KK carries a 5 hybrid, a 7 hybrid, a pitching wedge, and a putter; RG carries a 7 hybrid, a 9 iron, and a putter.
Another question we got recently—in response to our mention of Kieran gaining access to a trove of old demos—was “why didn’t Kieran already have access to his old songwriting demos?” Well, mainly because he didn’t hang on to copies of the demos in the first place. He had a few different publishing deals with Tree International Publishing between the late 1970s and the early 1990s. Any songs he wrote while with Tree were put into their archive. Tree was eventually bought by Sony. A few times over the years he reached out to Sony to ask for copies of his demo recordings, and the response was always along the lines of “yeah, we’ll get to that…”, because the archive was on a mix of reel-to-reel, DAT, and cassettes—transferring all that stuff was labor intensive and not a high priority. But now everything has been digitized, so Kieran’s most recent request for access to his work was fulfilled by Sony almost immediately. The magic of modern technology!
Cabin Life
Here’s a photo of Kieran at the farm where we go to get our eggs and maple syrup. The Edwards family has been on this land for generations (and probably making syrup there for just as long). It’s a true old-time Adirondack scene. We love popping in to visit.
Musically, our main project of late has been getting reacquainted with our own repertoire in advance of our upcoming shows. Turns out we’ve got a lot of stuff we like to play! The upside of being a little rusty is being able to approach the songs without being on autopilot, which makes room for some evolution—tweaking the feel or the instrumentation or the key—that wouldn’t occur otherwise. We’re having a good time, and we’re looking forward to sharing it.
Wildlife Report
Spottings of note since our last report: an osprey; piles of mergansers; a fox; turkeys; luna moths.
A sampling of recent birdcalls, identified using the wonderful Merlin app: cedar waxwing; vireos (red-eyed and warbling); sparrows (chipping, song, house); warblers (pine, chestnut-sided); indigo bunting; goldfinch and other finches (purple, house); eastern kingbird; black-billed cuckoo; yellow-bellied sapsucker.
We hope you’ll share more comments and questions!
Till soon —

cont’d...grr... as one of his “Furies” (I was completely spellbound at that show). For the record, Aoife was/is my first bluegrass cousin - she graciously performed (a capella) a few songs at a memorial gathering for Ruth’s mom (my Dad’s kid sister Cynthia) and I said to her in a playful way that she was now family and she very sincerely came back without missing a beat that she’d be honored to be a member of such a family. Alrighty then!! Ever since she has had great fun torturing my fanboy Gemini self...she’s a Scorpio (wouldn’t ya know 😖) but hey! That’s what family does! I think I “sealed the deal” on my stage name when I walked up to Ron Thomason (Dry Branch F. S. ) at a Grey Fox ( at the still (at the time) “new” farm ) and said, “hiya Ron! I’m yer long-lost cousin Adam!” and stuck out my hand. Without missing a beat he replies, “cousin Adam huh? Y’know, that could be....”. I could see the wheels in his head cooking up a plausible backstory- but he shook my hand and said‘pleased to finally meet you- hope you’re having fun here at Grey Fox! For sure, Ron, FO SHO!! Made my day! My nickname has been consecrated!! The rest, as they say......
Ciao fer now! Break a leg on the first!

Awright ya got me- installing bandsintown app as I type this.... and plan to sign up for Cafe Lena on 7/1! I caught the recent Maeve Gilchrist/ B Molsky show there..... deeelightful!! Shortly thereafter received a newsletter from her announcing that she and hubby are expecting a “harpette” due to arrive in November!! They were “over the moon” about it and fanboy that I am 🤪fired off a congratulatory email, shamelessly touting my cousin connection with Ruth and Rob, and resulting friendship with Bruce and Daryl A, who brought (now ‘cousin)’ Maeve
