Notes From the Cabin: June 9, 2023

Rumor control: we are not members of the PGA.

It’s cool and rainy here, and the air has cleared after some days of very heavy haze from the Canadian wildfires. Here’s a before-and-after — the Tuesday morning view, then a moment of clarity last night:

Since we last wrote we’ve spent some time in the bunkhouse studio — adding bits to a basic track we recorded with Kristin Andreassen before we left Nashville (more on that eventually) — as well as all our regular cabin puttering. And golf.

Wait! Let us explain! We aren’t those kind of golfers. We play what we refer to as “folk golf.” We don’t keep score. We walk, and only carry a few clubs (RG has pared it down to 3; KK usually has 4). We avoid busy courses. There’s generally a lot of admiring of scenery and identifying of birds. So to be clear (especially given recent golf news): the game we play has absolutely nothing to do with the PGA. (Or country clubs.) We believe in GOLF FOR THE PEOPLE!

Wildlife Report

Spotted: bald eagles fishing in the lake and cruising overhead; hummingbirds gorging themselves at our feeder; loons; mallards; miscellaneous fish; as of yet NO mice in the cabin (a miracle or one of those cyclical things?); a bumper crop of groundhogs everywhere we go.

Heard in the night: loon yodeling, fox screaming.

The Johnson Family Farm Store in Northville, NY. We have come to rely on these dear folks in so many ways. Glorious organic produce, delicious sandwiches, the very best donuts—and even better vibes. They do a world of good for the whole community just by existing. We love them.
